About this audiobook

A beautiful, opposites attract lesbian romance about hearing the music in your heart.

Rising star cellist Kate Flynn is new to Chicago and her job at the Windy City Chamber Ensemble. On day one, she is surprised by the board's intriguing president, Vivian Kensington. Not only does the woman come with a formidable reputation, but she's also deaf.

However, between a familiar face Kate isn't ready to see again and the difficulties of being a single mom, she isn't sure Chicago is the right place for her.

When tendrils of friendship develop with Vivian, Kate finds beneath her prickly ice queen persona unexpected kindness and warmth. Is the promise of more enough to make her stay? Can two such different women, one from a world of sound and one a world of silence, truly understand one another?

Contains mature themes.

I had read the ebook and became excited to see Abby Craden narrating this. I was disappointed that the voice she used for Max, the boy, was way too high pitched and irritating for my tastes. Otherwise, it’s an absolute wonderful story.

There is much to say about this book, but I will keep this as concise as possible. I’ve read the different iterations of this story through the years and I can say genuinely this is my favorite. The absolutely incredible imagery, language, and care that was taken to do the Deaf community justice is beyond measure. This is the author to read, and has been for quite some time. She is able to pluck your heart strings and send you through waves of emotion like the songs she references in the story. Vivian and Kate aren’t just characters, they feel like distant friends by a mere few pages into the book.

I was excited when I saw there would be an audio version of this because sometimes life doesn’t allow for one to sit down with a great book. The narrator didn’t disappoint in the least. I was captivated by her character voices, inflections, and flow. It was a truly perfect choice for the voices of these characters.

Read the book. Listen to the book. Then do yourself a favor and enjoy it many more times over. I promise, you’ll find your forever home with it, too.
