About this audiobook
Now a major motion picture starring Ewan McGregor!
From master storyteller Stephen King, his unforgettable and terrifying sequel to The Shining—an instant #1 New York Times bestseller that is “[a] vivid frightscape” (The New York Times).
Years ago, the haunting of the Overlook Hotel nearly broke young Dan Torrance’s sanity, as his paranormal gift known as “the shining” opened a door straight into hell. And even though Dan is all grown up, the ghosts of the Overlook—and his father’s legacy of alcoholism and violence—kept him drifting aimlessly for most of his life. Now, Dan has finally found some order in the chaos by working in a local hospice, earning the nickname “Doctor Sleep” by secretly using his special abilities to comfort the dying and prepare them for the afterlife. But when he unexpectedly meets twelve-year-old Abra Stone—who possesses an even more powerful manifestation of the shining—the two find their lives in sudden jeopardy at the hands of the ageless and murderous nomadic tribe known as the True Knot, reigniting Dan’s own demons and summoning him to battle for this young girl’s soul and survival...

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It had been a while since I had read a Stephen King novel. As always, I enjoyed the story a great deal. King has a way of writing and building characters that is second to none, and I can't recall ever reading his work and not coming away entertained. This novel is a sequel of sorts to his famous book The Shining, but it certainly stands along as its own story. I cannot say much that has not already been said about this book, but I would recommend it and I think that it shows King has not lost a step.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Incredible follow up to The Shining that really honors it without just rehashing the story. Some moments are terrifying and others are heartwarming. One of King's great ones

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Stephen King is one of the best storytellers out there! This book retained the atmosphere of the Shining, the only (until now) one of his books I’ve read.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Brilliant story with overtones of AA recovery language. Thank you ?? And the narrator managed so many distinct accent.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Pretty good, as a recovered alcoholic I liked the part King added about his own experiences with that. Kind of missed that in most of his novels, even though some of the characters in the past had a history. Not sure though, if I needed an update on Dan Torrance. But sure, why not. Solid story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great excerpt to the shining loved it! Hopefully he writes more about Abra and Danny!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very satisfying follow up on Dan Torrance’s life. Loved it.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A good sequel. Voice acting was good as well. 4/5.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good book. Terrible recording. There were several parts where the story cuts off and starts at a different place. I dont know if it’s bad editing or what. Also, every time I would close the app and come back the book would be in a different place than where I left off.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love this book. Second time reading it and it was just as good as the first time!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Will Patton needs to do more audiobooks, I FELT this book because of him bringing King's words to life and putting tangible weight behind them

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent story of a family I really needed to know more about.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love the personal connection he had to the book and multiple POVs throughout it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Doctor Sleep was a sequel to King's popular "The Shining." It was imperative to have read The Shining to even begin to understand this book. That being said, the sequel was a much better story than the original. King, once again, takes the reader on a roller coaster psychological journey. The characters in Doctor Sleep are regular, ordinary characters that have the "shining" which covers a multitude of paranormal traits. This is the epic battle of good and evil, but good wins this time. Again, I'm not a King fan, but was drawn to t his book by the reviews and his more recent book, 11-23-63, which I adored.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It's okay. As a sequel to the shining, there's really no suspense or sense of impending dread like there should be. I didn't find myself caring about the characters all that much

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Doctor Sleep by Stephen King is the sequel to The Shining, and in it we find out what happened to little Danny Torrance after the horrors of the Overlook Hotel. The character of young Abra Stone was my favourite of the novel, and I thoroughly enjoyed Dan taking her under his wing and teaching her a little about the shining. The danger that was soon to unite them was a little too 'out there' for me and I wished the novel had just focussed on their lives and unique abilities. I didn't need another battle of good and evil, although the theme made sense coming from the pen of the great Stephen King. (I will say that the source of the danger was innocuous, imaginative - and definitely unique - which did make it entertaining). Here's my favourite quote, from Page 160 of the book:"I'll bring you a pine tree float, if you want. That's a glass of water with a toothpick in it."All in all, I'm glad I found out what became of Danny Torrance, but Doctor Sleep didn't blow me away.
